In our modern world, most world leaders tend to argue against media censorship and the suppression of one of our most basic human right, freedom of expression. We live in a globalized society, that shares news and information in matter of seconds, with newspapers, a blog post, a Facebook opinion or with a 140-character block called Tweet. If we have the accessibility to these outlets, which most of us do, we can learn about the result of the presidential election in Peru or we can learn about the dreads of the war in the Middle East. All of these seem so obvious and practical for us, yet we have not experienced the suffering and struggle the people of China or Cuba have suffered and keep suffering. It is inconceivable for government leaders to continue enforcing such deterrent regulations that halt the overall progress of that affected society in economic, political and social terms. Therefore, this essay will examine the powerful issues caused by media censorship and the harm it doe s on the development of a globalized society. With all the communication tools we have today, our methods to connect with each other facilitate business, dialogue, negotiation and many more factors that help us grow as a society. The implementation of such negative and destructive polices like media censorship that leads to the affected society’s seclusion from the world is limiting us from expanding economically.
